Should I Give Part Time Workers Pro-Rated Benefits?
Part-time workers are often just as important to your small business as full-time employees. Consider giving those who work more than 20 hours but less than 40 prorated benefits. Check your benefit policy manual and the terms of any third-party contracts (such as with your 401(k) provider) before making any determination. Don't forget that certain federally mandated benefits, such as COBRA and unemployment compensation, cover all employees on your payroll, regardless of how many hours they work.
