Get Smart! 3 Ways Smartwatches Can Help Busy Entrepreneurs

Wearable tech has really taken off in the last two years. According to the Smartwatch Group, an independent research company based in Switzerland reported that around 6.8 million smartwatches were sold in 2014.

But that was in 2014; in 2015, we’ve seen the big players introducing their versions of smartwatches from circular Moto 360s to Apple Watch, the traditional looking LG Watch Urbane and Samsung Gear S2. The market is being flooded with all types of smartwatches and millions are being sold, not only from tech companies, but also from fashion brands like Guess and Fossil which recently joined this revolution.

The same group reported that the smartwatch industry is expected to grow from $1.3 billion USD in 2014 to 117 billion in 2020.

Here are three ways smartwatches can be helpful for busy entrepreneurs:

    1. Productivity

If you are an entrepreneur, productivity is perhaps the most important thing you need in order to make the most of your working hours. If you are wondering how a smartwatch can make you productive, Android Wear has a unique feature that makes it a must-have for small business owners and entrepreneurs--its deep integration with Google Now through its customizable push-notification service is designed to make you more productive.

If you are not aware of Google Now, it is an intelligent OS that you can turn into a personal assistant to make you productive. Before, it had been available only for Android smartphones, but now it's available on any Android Wear smartwatch.

With Google Now, you’ll never miss business-related reminders and notifications as it is designed to notify you with activities that are relevant to you. You can even use Google searches to push relevant news straight to you so that you can stay in touch with industry news and updates about your competition.

Besides Google, there are a number of Android Wear and Apple Watch apps that will help you be more productive through timely notifications and reminders.

    2. Fitness

With smartwatches, you don’t need any other fitness trackers or pedometers to stay on top of your fitness game. Most of these watches have built-in sensors that tie in with apps to help you reach your fitness goals.

Many entrepreneurs sit long hours, and even though standing desks and ergonomic chairs can help, smartwatches are a game changer. When it comes to fitness, I recommend the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch keeps track of the time you are standing and motivates you to keep moving. There are three rings (stand, move, exercise) on the fitness app which show how often you stand to take a break from sitting, how many active calories you've burned, and how many minutes of brisk activity you've completed. The goal is to help you stay active throughout the day.

    3. Time Management

For busy entrepreneurs, time is money. To make the best use of available hours, entrepreneurs should do time blocking and allot hours for specific tasks throughout the day. A smartwatch will help you prioritize your tasks and keep track of time through apps and smart reminders. For example, Android Wear has a tight integration with Gmail and Google Calendar, which will keep you on track.

In addition, a smartwatch can help you when you are on the go. Google Now can monitor traffic conditions through Google Maps, and suggest the best routes to get to meetings on time. It also can give you real time notifications about flight delays or cancellations by monitoring your Gmail account if you have a booked ticket.

In conclusion, smartwatches are just starting to become popular, and developers are working on different apps to convince people--especially entrepreneurs--they need smartwatches. Turning a smartwatch into your own personal assistant will make your days more productive.
