Yahoo Publisher Network Competes with Google AdSense
Yahoo plans to compete with Google AdSense with an announcement on the Yahoo Search blog that they are rolling out a beta of their Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN).
"Yahoo! has launched a beta network in the U.S. for small- and medium-sized publishers. Currently available through invitation only, as Yahoo! tests and refines the new platform, small- and medium-sized publishers can easily sign up online and access new revenue sources and enhanced Yahoo! content through our new self-serve platform. Our goal is to extend the beta to more publishers by the end of the year."There have been rumors of when Yahoo would launch their YPN program for months, but the most specific news was leaked yesterday morning by Stefanie Olsen on News.com as, "Yahoo to launch blog ad Network".
This is an important step by Yahoo to formally compete with Google's AdSense program with a self-serve service for publishers that want to monetize their content rich web sites.
Jenstar has posted a very detailed description of the YPN program on her excellent Jensense blog and she has also started a thread on WebmasterWorld.
You can sign up for the YPN program here. Keep in mind, the current beta is limited to 2000 sites. The program will expand to include more sites and blogs near the end of the year.
