Visualize Whirled Peas
I'm not a big fan of bumper stickers but I do admire them when they are catchy or clever enough to stick in my brain (and that's not an easy thing to do!). The most memorable bumper sticker I have ever seen is actually a humorous twist on another (more serious) bumper sticker.
The serious one says: "Visualize World Peace"
The funny (and memorable) one says: "Visualize Whirled Peas"
Maybe I'm weird but I really like the funny one. Plus, I think it offers us some real life marketing lessons.
First, it's a clever play on words (which I always enjoy). It took some creative thinking to come up with this, I'm sure.
Second, it's light-hearted, not stuffy and serious. We all have enough serious issues in our lives. We don't need one more adding to the pile.
Third, it's concrete. I can easily see a funnel of peas whirling around like a little tornado. I don't have to strain my brain to figure out what "whirled peas" would look like.
Fourth, it's short and easy to remember.
These traits add up to a message that stays with people. That's something we should all strive for when we create our own marketing messages.
