Employee theft is a harsh reality that all industries are plagued by. Whether you operate in the manufacturing, retail, wholesale, technology, or hospitality sector, be aware that your business has likely experienced some degree of employee theft. According to a survey of 23 large retail companies conducted by loss-prevention consulting firm Jack L. Hayes International, a total of 78,085 dishonest employees were apprehended in 2013, up 6.5 percent from 2012. Items that could be stolen from you could range from money, inventory, spare parts, office supplies, information, and even customers! In fact, it's estimated that 95 percent of businesses experience employee theft, and management is often unaware about the prevalence or extent of it.
