I’ve heard Bob’s Discount furniture’s slightly annoying advertisements for years – the advertising touts how cheap Bob’s furniture is compared to the competition. The heavy Brooklyn accent in a scratchy voice gets to you sometimes.
Last week, the advertisement had a twist.
It said that you don’t have to stay at home for hours waiting for their delivery truck to come. Instead, track their trucks online. That is simple, and maybe other companies enable this, but most any delivery company or service where someone must come to your home, asks you to wait 4 hours or all day.
I recently called Earthlink to have my phone service repaired, and they gave me a four hour window repair time. Can I (or anyone else) wait at home for FOUR hours?
Being a techie, I know that Bob’s Furniture is able to offer more precise delivery of its trucks through the use of satellite based GPS or a similar system done through cell phones, instead of satellites, which in the end, I would guess still relies on GPS.
Bob’s Discount Furniture advertisement is a PERFECT example of how a company is leveraging technology to not only keep track of its fleet and schedule them most productively, but to also turn this technology into a powerful sales tool and competitive differentiator.
