    Are You Familiar with the Google Keyword Tool for YouTube?

    Many local business owners find it challenging to come up with keywords to boost online SEO and rankings. Finding the balance between specificity and breadth to help you get found is a fine art.

    You want your keywords to be specific enough to ensure users find your niche and your business, especially with geographic local modifiers. But you don’t want to get too specific and risk of users not coming up with or entering the keywords you choose.

    Yet with some patience -- and some assistance from a good keyword-generation tool or service -- it’s possible to go from ranking on the 50th Google page to the first Google page in a matter of months.

    Video Keywords Present Unique Challenges

    However, getting found in world of online videos presents with an added layer of challenges. When people search for online videos, they typically enter different keywords than they use searching for other types of online content. It’s important to identify this distinction and determine what types of keywords are used to find online videos vs. written content.

    One cool tool to assist with this process is the YouTube Keyword Tool.

    The YouTube Keyword Tool presents you with an opportunity to generate new keyword ideas by simply selecting how you’d like to generate those keyword ideas and then entering a few descriptive phrases or words, a YouTube URL or video ID, or demographics of your target audience.

    Even better, the tool is easy to use, and the results are easy to interpret. The keywords are generated based on the language and countries you choose. Once you select the keywords you’d like to use from the list of results, you can use them to advertise on Google by exporting them to CSV or text file, signing into your AdWords account, and pasting them into one of your campaigns.

    The tool presents you with three options to generate keyword phrases and ideas.

    1. Descriptive Words or Phrases

    You simply enter some keywords or phrases you’d like to get suggestions on, and the results are displayed in a table that provides:

    1. Keywords related to the term or terms you entered, sorted by relevance;
    2. The Monthly Search Volume for the suggested keywords;
    3. The Match Type you’d like to select (Broad, Phrase, Exact, or Negative).

    2. YouTube Video ID or URL

    If you have a video you’d like to get suggested keywords for, you simply enter the YouTube url and the tool will generate a list of keyword results in a table displayed the same way they are for Descriptive Words or Phrases described above.

    3. Demographic Options

    The Demographic tool (which is still officially in beta) allows you to target a specific audience by entering gender, age range, location, and interests for your demographic. The keyword suggestions are then displayed in table format as the Descriptive Words or Phrases layout describe above.

    For local businesses that have incorporated online video marketing into their marketing campaigns, this tool is great resources to help those businesses get found online. The keyword results can be incorporated into the videos URL, tags, description and reviews to boost SEO for that business.
