5 Tips for Getting More Out of Your Next Trade Show

Sure, the main reason you attend a trade show is to meet the vendors and make purchases; but trade shows can offer so much more. Beyond buying, here are five great things that you should do at a trade show:

    1. Learn about new trending products.

Trade shows are the premier place where companies will show off their latest and greatest products or services. Be sure to set time aside to investigate new products and consider which ones you should add to your line.

    2. Compare prices between vendors.

Many vendors at a trade show might offer identical or very similar products. A price comparison app or even a simple Excel file will help you figure out which company offers the overall best price in aggregate. Beware of “loss leaders” throwing you off and getting you to believe that one company has lower prices.

    3. Network with other business owners.

One opportunity you should not miss is the chance to network and learn from other business owners. People who own similar businesses to you, but are based in different locations can provide a wealth of knowledge. You can benefit from sharing ideas, challenges, and triumphs with others who can really understand and appreciate it.

    4. Attend educational sessions offered at the trade show.

Many trade shows offer educational sessions, presentations, or seminars early in the morning before the trade show floor opens. There is a wealth of knowledge shared at these seminars and much can be learned. It is also a great way to meet other attendees to collaborate with.

    5. Make social plans to have dinner or drinks with other business owners or vendors.

Be open to making plans with other attendees or vendors. Fill up your calendar and don’t eat alone for the entire trade show. In fact, you might want to make plans ahead of time so that you can make dinner reservations or have time to research the best places in the area to eat or go for drinks.

Everyone goes to a trade show with the intent of buying; however, you can do so much more than just buy products. Maximize your time at a trade show by filling up your days with plenty of tasks and goals. Make sure that you are utilizing all your time at the show and making the most of all the opportunities available.
