What Does a Plant Service Do?
If you like the idea of having fresh plants and flowers in your office but don't have the time to care for them, be advised that there are companies that supply and take care of office plants.
Also known as interior landscapers, these companies are fairly common and highly competitive in major metropolitan areas. As you get farther from major business centers, however, you'll find diminished selection and higher prices.
This is a service business, and there's always room for negotiation. Bargain for bigger or more exotic plants, more frequent maintenance, or seasonal or festive decor such as poinsettias or floral arrangements.
In larger markets, national plant services use their size and greenhouse inventory as selling points. A big company might be a good choice if you'll need new greenery on short notice for special events or if you foresee lots of horticultural emergencies. But these companies are most interested in contract business with large business properties, hotels and retails stores. Your account could get lost.
Smaller plant services usually offer more personalized service and are more likely to negotiate, especially if you're willing to sign a long-term deal. You'll get the best prices if you commit to 18 months with one service. Not many plant services can afford an account worth less than $50 a month. So if you can't justify $50 a month for plants, consider buying some hearty varieties like Aglaonema, Dracaenea, Vermiliad, or Cacti and maintain them yourself.
