W-9 and 1099 Forms

 Due to the upcoming tax season, I am receiving a lot of emails with regard to W-9 forms and 1099 issues.  I have had several questions about a 2009 W-9 form.  There is no 2009 form.  Unless there is a need for the IRS to update a form, they use the lastest revised form, which in this case is October 2007 (www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf).

 The most recent 1099-MISC form (www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1099msc.pdf), the 1099 I receive the most questions about, is dated 2009, and is updated every year.  This form needs to be mailed out by February 1, 2010.  It is my recommendation to all of you that if you obtain your W-9 forms prior to paying vendors, this will save you a lot of time at the end of the year.
