Toyota Hybrids Worth $150 Million for Australia
After learning that they’ll be receiving a $35 million subsidy from the Australian Green Car fund, Toyota has committed to build 10,000 Camry hybrids annually in Melbourne. The investment is expected to provide $150 million to the local economy every year. The announcement wasn’t received well by everyone however. The Tourism and Transport forum feels that hybrids are not a long-term answer to environmental concerns. Lyn Allison, leader of the Australian Democrats, believes that a smaller model of hybrid should be manufactured. She feels that the Camry is inefficient at 1450 kg.
