Everyone has their favorite movies, and movie rankings are a popular way of celebrating cinematic excellence. Lists such as the American Film Institute's 100 Greatest American Films of All Time, Empire Magazine’s 500 Greatest Movies of All Time, and IMDb’s Top 250 have offered us some of the most iconic and revered films throughout history. Each of these lists considers a range of factors, from historical significance to popular opinion, but the debate over the "greatest" movie is still far from settled.

We decided to ask ChatGPT for a fresh perspective. By considering quality, critical acclaim, memorable quotes, and box office success, ChatGPT has crafted its own list of the top 10 movies. Let’s see which films made the cut, why they continue to be celebrated today, and whether you have others to add to your personal list of all-time greats.

Note, however, that ChatGPT did have some "hallucinations" (mistakes or inaccuracies) in giving its responses to our prompts, which we had to edit. ChatGPT warns about this after each answer it gives by saying, "ChatGPT can make mistakes.”
