Subway Rides the Social Media Love Train
Go ahead, admit it. You love Subway. And what’s not to love? Fresh veggies, passable meats, homemade cookies, free soda refills. Sure, the line can get a little long a times, but that’s because every sub is hand crafted by your very own sandwich artist. Subway fans are shouting their love from the rooftops. Well, actually, their expressing their adoration via Twitter and Facebook.
A recent survey by social media research firm Amplicate found that 76% of all tweets and Facebook posts that mentioned Subway were positive, higher than any other fast food chain in America. One chain that wasn’t feeling the love was McDonald’s. It scored near the bottom with a love-rating of 64%. So who’s lovin’ it now?
Talking turkey
Carl’s Jr. is the first national chain to add a Turkey Burger to its menu. So how does the chain, famous for its sexy ads featuring scantily clad starlets like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, mark this auspicious milestone? It hires Miss Turkey to promote the burger. Yes, the real Miss Turkey—in her bikini and all. It’s a stroke of marketing genius that appeals perfectly to the 4th-grade mentality of its core customer base. We should now, because we’re it. Customer goes ballistic
Price hikes are fact of life. Sure they make us angry, but enough to kill? One Taco Bell customer was so enraged over a 50-cent increase in the price of his burrito, he pulled out a gun and tried to shoot the restaurant manager. The customer, 37-year-old Ricardo Jones from San Antonio, Texas, was getting ready to pay for his seven Beefy Crunch Burritos when he was told the price had jumped from $.99 to $1.49 because the promotion had ended. That’s not what Mr. Jones wanted to hear.
Clearly, this is a guy with bigger anger management issues than Chris Brown. First, he took aim at the manager with an air gun. Police were then called to the scene. At that point, he reached for a semi-automatic rifle and exchanged fire with officers. He shattered a squad car windshield before running off. He was finally apprehended by a SWAT team a few hours later. Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident. But really, wouldn’t it have been easier to just pay the extra 50 cents?
