Strange Burgers Invade the Fast Food Universe
It’s wacky burger week in the world of fast-food franchising. We recently told you about the $16 foie gras and truffle burger being sold by Wendy’s in Japan. Now comes word that a Belgian chain called Quick has launched a line of Star Wars-inspired burgers to promote the upcoming “Phantom Menace 3D” premiere.
The burger that’s generating the most buzz is the “Dark Vador” – even though it totally messed up the spelling of “Vader”. This burger, which includes two beef patties with cheese, lettuce and tomato, features a bun that appears to have been toasted black. In fact, it’s merely been dyed.
No word on how the burger is cooked, though Star Wars purists will undoubtedly want theirs burned to a crisp.
So how are people reacting to the new burger? As always, the best comments can be found on the internet. Here are some of our favorites:
“What's next, Pizza the Hut?”
“Dark Vador: aka the Barf Vader"
“I feel a great disturbance in the force. As if a million colons screamed in terror and were suddenly silenced.”
More stupid burger ideas. If the Dark Vador is not bizarre enough for you, McDonald’s Japan has unleashed three more unconventional burgers as part of its “Big America” campaign.
Here’s the gimmick: each burger is inspired by a famous American city or location. There’s the Las Vegas Burger, the Broadway Burger and the Beverly Hills Burger. Oh, those crazy Japanese.
Each burger purports to have ingredients that directly relate to its namesake, but we’re having a hard time connecting the dots.
The Broadway Burger, for instance, has pastrami bacon. The Beverley Hills Burger is topped with an avocado and Caesar salad sauce. And the Vegas Burger features a special cream cheese sauce. (Wouldn’t that be a Philly burger?)
At any rate, what happens in Japan should stay in Japan.
Strange fast-food tattoos. As this next item proves, some people love their fast food way too much. Really, what kind of person would get the creepy Burger King mascot tattooed across his back? Or the Taco Bell logo inked on a butt cheek? Or a tramp stamp of the Golden Arches. Words can’t do these startling images justice, so we’ll let you check out the horror show for yourself.
