Social Media Marketing and Security with Hootsuite
Hootsuite is making a lot of cool moves in the market lately and I thought I'd share a few of their latest.
First, they have their finger on the pulse around security and how to safeguard the integrity of a brand's online (and offline) presence. They have secure profiles now, which for one thing, protect you from inadvertently sending out a certain type of non-brand-friendly tweet. To be nice, let's call them foolish tweets that you really didn't mean to send. Here are a few examples they shared with me:
- An American Red Cross employee accidentally sharing their beer preference via the corporate account (@RedCross) instead of their personal account. You can read the full deal here.
- A Marc Jacobs (@MarcJacobsIntl) intern's late-night, work grievance meltdown. BusinessInsider has a terrific post here.
- A Chrysler contract employee who mistakenly sent an unsavory message to all of @ChryslerAuto's followers while driving to work. If you want all the unsavory details, you'll want to read Soshable's post.
Fortunately for the Red Cross, they're a social media savvy organization that was able to turn damage into donations by teaming with Dogfish Head Beer. They were able to handled their mis-tweeted message elegantly, but not every unintentional message can be as readily turned around.
Due to these high-profile events and many more that you've likely seen on your own, HootSuite knew it would have to help its users prevent accidental updates from posting to valuable brand social media profiles. You'll need to be on the Enterprise version to get all the power, though.
- Account owners can designate chosen social profiles as "Secure" to their designated team
- Team members are prompted to confirm or cancel messages before broadcasting to secured profiles
- Profiles are secured across platforms starting on web with iPhone, Android and Blackberry available shortly and I'm looking forward to the Android one.
The best part is they maintain a sophisticated library with resources around their offering, of course, but useful and valuable PDF downloads. You can learn more about HootSuite after you hit the library here.
Once you hit the link above (to the library), you just need to scroll down a bit to this great list. You have to click over to Slideshare to read them, but no big deal. Here are a few of the titles I've read and plan to use in my daily social media work:
- The Value of Community Building is excellent.
- Listening and Engagement.
- Working with URLs. Naturally, they are promoting the Ow.ly and Ht.ly shorteners that HootSuite offers.
By the way, if you have not downloaded from Slideshare before, you need to login with your Facebook account or set up a free account. This allows you to download the documents as PDFs.
Happy Hooting.
