Definition for: Business Development Company
A "Business Development Company" or a "BDC" is a company that is created to help finance companies in their early stages of development. BDCs are similar to venture capital funds. Many BDCs are set up much like closed-end funds and are public companies that trade on the NYSE, the American Stock Exchange, foreign exchanges or NASDAQ. BDCs allow smaller investors to participate and benefit from investing in fast growing new companies. See "BDC" and "Closed-End Funds".
