Pathetic Post Office Ad: If You Can't Beat 'Em, Scare 'Em
The U.S. Postal Service is hemorrhaging money. Its back is against the wall.
What does it do to fight back? It produces one of the most ridiculous ads I've seen in a long, long time.
The idea behind the ad is to scare the pants off anyone foolish enough to use that newfangled email stuff. "A refrigerator has never been hacked," declares the announcer as a happy Postal Service customer sticks a paper bill on her refrigerator door.
Email might "get lost in thin air, or disappear with a click." Because really, who knows how this creepy InterWeb stuff works? Isn't it just a bunch of tubes or something?
Actually, I'd be willing to bet that somebody, somewhere has hacked a refrigerator. More to the point, I can't be the only person ever to have mail -- including checks -- stolen out of my mailbox.
Here's the ad, posted courtesy of YouTube.
