No Passport , No Go
The ruling that allowed for travel without a passport between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean was, in fact, temporary and will be waived at the end of this month.
Back in June, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) permitted such flights under the condition that passengers demonstrated documented proof of a pending passport application.
As previously reported, this move was a response to surplus accumulation of passport applications.
A DHS press release stated that "air carriers and the traveling public that the temporary Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative accommodation allowing U.S. citizens to travel by air within the Western Hemisphere using a Department of State official proof of passport application receipt will end as scheduled at midnight on September 30".
