Mobile App Roundup: New Year's Edition
Many of us will be making New Year's resolutions to get better organized and be more productive. These days there are apps to help with both of those resolutions, and much more.
Here are a few apps that will help 2012 shape up to be a more productive year. Also, while you're browsing the marketplace, keep in mind several apps are free or on sale for a limited time for the holidays or end-of-year specials. The BlackBerry App World, for example, has a Thank You Gift area with a number of free apps.
Folder Organizer (Android -- Fabio Collini; Free)
Apps have a way of rearranging themselves every few days. Folder Organizer lets you group apps in folders so they stay where you can find them. You can group business and personal apps in separate folders, and get right to the app you want with a little organization.
iDownloader Pro (iPhone -- Apps2be; $1.99)
iDownloader is a Safari-like, multi-tab browser. A Wi-Fi sharing feature lets you transfer files to and from your computer. It offers a private browsing function that clears history and cookies when the app goes in the background. The app lets you "Rip All Media," or mass-download all music and video files from pages with direct download links to appropriate files.
The iDownloader Pro v. 1.2 app is $1.99, however there is a free version also available.
SkyDrive (Windows Phone -- Microsoft; Free)
SkyDrive is Microsoft's cloud service that lets you save and access files from multiple devices including your phone, PC and laptop. You can upload pictures, browse files shared with you on your SkyDrive and share a link to any file you have on your SkyDrive.
BHive Tasks 4.0 (BlackBerry -- High Velocity IT; $8.99 - on sale for $4.99)
BHive helps you organize and personalize everything on your BlackBerry with filters, custom sorting, import/export tasks, mass create tasks, mass update tasks and assigning shortcuts. The app also has a Torch Support to optimize the screen for touch-screen phones, and Universal Search that starts a search when you start typing anything on your phone.
