MBA Scholarships for Social Entrepreneurs Combating Childhood Obesity
Kenney
College Graduate School of Global Entrepreneurship offers scholarships to
stimulate new social ventures focused on childhood obesity and nutrition
According
to the World Health Organization over 42 million children worldwide are obese.
In the United States an estimated 17% of children are classified as obese.
Despite this disturbing data, the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that the
percentage of self-employed nutrition professionals is expected decline between
now and 2018. Based on this trend and our commitment of improving lives through entrepreneurship education, Kenney College will be
offering scholarships to a cohort of 20 aspiring social entrepreneurs to pursue
Master of Business Administration degrees. Each scholarship recipient will have
the intention of creating a venture focused on reducing childhood obesity in a
unique, innovative and scalable way.
The aim of the scholarship program
is to encourage multidisciplinary professionals to tackle societal challenges
through social entrepreneurship. Researchers have shown that entrepreneurs can play a vital
role in solving societal problems. We believe now is the time for time visionary
entrepreneurs to apply their talents to the global childhood obesity epidemic.
Helping thousands, and hopefully millions, of children requires business skills
that a MBA and faculty mentorship can develop in a social entrepreneur. By
offering these scholarships we believe we’re going to help a lot of children and
families all over the world.
Applicants will be eligible for
scholarships of $20,000, or 67% of total tuition. Individuals are encouraged to apply
whether or not they have formal nutrition and/or dietetics training. Launching high-impact ventures requires assembling diverse teams. If someone
has a background in liberal arts or business they can still make a valuable
contribution and should apply.
Classes will begin conducted entirely online,
and the duration of the MBA program is 2 years. Applicants must possess an earned bachelor’s
degree from a regionally accredited college to be granted a scholarship. Classes will begin in January
2011. Prospective applicants should visit www.kenneymba.com and download a copy of our course catalog and
student handbook. Those interested in applying for a scholarship should contact me directly via email, matthew@kenneymba.com, or phone, 888-275-2159, to participate in a preliminary interview.
