Ideas for a Good About Me Page

If you have a home based business and a website, how much thought have you put into your "About" page? I am still amazed that sometimes I run across a perfectly good business blog (for example) but it still has the default WordPress About page which basically says "This is an example of a WordPress page....etc". How do you think that makes you look if you have default about page? Do you think people will do business with you?

An about page might have any number of things on it depending on the type of business. Generally it should be a place where people can go to get to know a little more about you. No need to tell your whole life story on your about page, but do tell some things about yourself that will cause people to want to do business with you.

Adding a photo or two will also help. Some people put their mission statements on the about page. Others might put a video introduction via YouTube on the about page. If you want clients and/or leads, put a phone number there so they can get hold of you. The possibilities are probably endless, but you get the idea. The goal of an about page would be to gain some level of transparency for your site and to get people to trust you. Trust is hard enough online, so give your visitors something to feel good about.

Believe it or not, people will visit your "About" page. Why not make it worth their while rather than a disappointment?
