How to Get a One Word Domain Name
If you have a home based business and want to go online, you probably know that you'll need to start with a domain name. And most advice will tell you to get a short domain name. Short single word domain names are easy to remember and therefore easier for people to get back to if they have left and not bookmarked the site. But there's only one problem: most one word domain names are already taken.
Not all of those that are taken are actually being used. But the ones that aren't in use are owned by domain brokers and those will cost you if you want to get one. So what's the solution?
Make a word up! That what Seth Godin did when he created Squidoo. That was not a word until he came along. There are still loads of made up words that haven't been used yet. So all you have to do is get a bit creative. You can also look for obscure words (twitter for example is a real word but until the website caught on, few people used it).
The down side of that approach is that no one will be looking for your made up word. But it is good for branding. If you take this approach to a domain name, you will need to work on creating traffic to your site by means other than the domain name.
