Alastair Ong, The Founder and CEO of Green Soul Shoes is the only client of mine in the 15 year history of my career transition work who actually conceived, found partners and launched his business during his 14 week program. Many people do get clarity about what they want to launch but it usually takes three to 6 months to get it going.
Alastair was a corporate attorney with experience at big firms in New York City as well as having his own practice when we met two years ago. In addition, he was running two technology companies. Earlier in his life, Alastair was a Julliard cellist and in his spare time he trains seeing eye dogs and participates in extreme sports. In addition to being highly talented and productive, he is also the most optimistic person I have ever met. So why did he hire me to help him through a career transition?
Alastair is what we call a horizon gazer which means when he arrived at Three Giant Leaps, he was extremely content but at the same time felt he could do more. He was looking for more fulfillment, a higher purpose and he found it by starting and running his socially responsible company.
When asked how his life is different from what it was two years ago he says he wakes up every morning excited that his efforts are contributing to the betterment of the world and that each day is a great adventure. He also shares that his company is doing well by doing good.
His advice for others looking for bliss? “Life is a game and at the end of the game, you die. At least, if you are doing what you love, you can die happy!”
