Employment Applications
Consider requiring all of your prospective employees to fill out an Employment Application. An application solicits a range of information to help you make decisions on whom to hire.
Be careful what you include in the application. Some questions are illegal to ask. A good Employment Application form asks for prior work experience, special skills, educational background, and also gives consent to the company to check references.
Make sure to keep employment applications on file. The application can be helpful later if you decide to fire an employee after discovering that he or she lied about the information on the form.
Make sure to attach the employee's résumé to the application and keep it in your files. You may want to refer back to the résumé later if problems arise with the employee. Or you may want to refer to resumes of candidates not hired if the position becomes available again.
