Emotional Intelligence Cheat Sheet
If you're looking for a quick and easy definition -- plus examples -- of emotional intelligence, the folks at Dummies.com have put up an "emotional intelligence cheat sheet."
Drawn from Emotional Intelligence for Dummies, by Steven Stein, the cheat sheet lists out the classic definition of emotional intelligence (basically being aware of and able to manage your own and others' emotions), but then goes several steps further by listing out still more characteristics of people with "EQ" including staying cool in difficult situations, being able to influence others (in a positive way), being able to express themselves clearly, and handling themselves appropriately in negotiations.
The cheat sheet then lists out ways to use emotional intelligence -- to handle your own anger, read other peoples' body language, and work with people you don't like. (In the latter category, I liked the suggestion that people plan before meeting with someone unpleasant, so they have a specific goal in mind for the interaction).
I like the cheat sheet. It's not fully fleshed out, but it gives just enough information to give people a taste of what this EQ stuff is all about and some strategies for beginning to incorporate it into their daily lives.
