Drop Ship Service: Scam or Legitimate?

    Question from the Mailbox:

Ran across this company called Drop Ship Access (link removed) which advertises over 1,000,000 products that can be sold via drop shipping. Since you write a lot about drop shipping, can you tell me anything about this company? Have you heard of it? Are they legit?

I have not previous heard of this company, but Drop Ship Access appears to be yet another of what I call a 'drop ship service'. To help you distinguish between a drop ship service and a true drop ship wholesale supplier, please refer to Drop Ship Service versus Drop Ship Supplier.

Drop ship services like this are technically legitimate, but it will be difficult to make money selling their products. The biggest problem with drop ship services like this is the product offering.

Yes, they may have a 'million products' for you to sell, but will you be able to sell them and make a profit? Probably not! And that is due to one simple reason: They are products from already saturated markets. In other words, the products they typically offer can be found in many sites around the web so you will be left competing with countless other sellers for narrow margins.

To operate a profitable drop ship home business, you must find your own niche market. This market should be under-served or on its way up. Ideally, the market should support repeat business and avoid "one sale products". For example, you might find a nifty Iphone gadget to sell, but who is going to return for another one? On other hand, if you deal in a consumable product that has to be replenished, you can potentially get repeat business.

To find those niche products, try using WorldWide Brands. Unlike the drop ship services where there is a monthly fee ranging from $30 to $100, WorldWide Brands asks a onetime lifetime fee and gives you access to thousands of legitimate wholesale suppliers. It will be money much better spent. But that alone will not guarantee your success either. You will still need to treat it as a business and plan to roll up those sleeves and get to work.

I have yet to run across anyone who makes any kind of money using a drop ship service. If you're out there, I'd love to hear from you. But until then, I cannot recommend using one.
