Does Your Blog Have a Purpose?
There are many good reasons to blog. For some people, it's a way to chronicle their lives. For others, it's therapy. For those of us using blogs as a business marketing communications tool, it may be a means by which we inform customers of "happenings" with our company, or as a way to promote our products and services, or to demonstrate our expertise. The point here is, whatever your purpose may be, it's best to have one.
Notice what I said...it's best to have "one." Blogs are very niche-specific. It's a mistake to try and make your blog a "be-all, end-all" device. So, let me ask, "Does your blog have a specific purpose?" Here are a few suggestions you may find helpful...
Company updates. I already alluded to that one. Your blog is your company's "news" page.
Breaking news. Some bloggers are journalists at heart. Scooping a story is is their life blood.
Link blog. Some bloggers set up a blog just for the purpose of listing links to others. That was how blogging got started in fact.
Entertainment. Some companies create "character" blogs
