Dictionary of Banking Terms: Weighted Average Maturity (WAM)
Weighted Average Maturity (WAM)
weighted average life of the remaining terms to maturity of the underlying loans of a mortgage certificate at the issue date, using the balance of each loan as the weighting factor. Weighted average maturity is computed by multiplying the maturity of each mortgage in a given pool by its remaining balance, adding the products, and dividing the result by the remaining balance.
