voluntary alienation
legal term that describes a sale or gift made by the free will of the seller or donor.
Example: Boyd owned a tract of land with 100 feet of frontage along highway 4, with 200 feet of depth. The highway department condemned a strip that was 20 feet deep along the frontage and paid Boyd $1 per square foot. Boyd sold the remaining land to Collins for $1.25 per square foot by voluntary alienation.
