Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms: VGA
VGA
the video system introduced by IBM on the PS/2 computers in 1987, the basis of current PC graphics. VGA originally stood for Video Gate Array (an ASIC on the PS/2 motherboard) but nowadays is usually interpreted as Video Graphics Adapter.
The VGA provided a maximum resolution of 640×480 with 16 colors. It also supported all the video modes of the earlier IBM video adapters (MDA, CGA, and EGA).
