Definition of union recognition

recognition achieved after a secret-ballot election, supervised by the National Labor Relations Board, has been conducted, in which a successful bargaining agent achieves at least 50 percent of the vote; also called union certification. After winning the election, a union is certified by the NLRB as the official bargaining agent for the bargaining unit.
