transposition error
error caused by reversing two or more digits of an amount while posting a transaction. If two adjacent numbers are switched, the resulting error is always divisible by nine. If a teller's closing balance is off by $63, the error probably was caused by switching the numbers 70 and 7, 81 and 18, or 92 and 29.
