process of shifting assets from one mutual fund to another by telephone. Such a switch may be among the stock, bond, or money market funds of a single family of funds, or it may be from a fund in one family to a fund in another.

Such a switch may be among the stock, bond, or money-market funds of a single family of funds, or it may be from a fund in one family to a fund in another. Transfers involving portfolios in annuity contracts do not trigger taxation of gains as do mutual fund switches.
