Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms: synchronization
synchronization
- the act of making a video display scan each line at exactly the right time, so that the image is displayed correctly. The input to a monitor consists of sync pulses as well as red, green, and blue video.
- the process of keeping two or more disk drives up to date relative to each other, by copying the latest version of each file to each device. This is a practical problem if you work with more than one computer, such as a laptop and a desktop machine. The Briefcase feature of Windows helps users synchronize files.
