Dictionary of Marketing Terms: superette
superette
retail grocery store whose volume is not as large as a supermarket but that carries a variety of products and operates similarly to a supermarket (i.e., with island displays, self-service, checkout counters). Guidelines of the U.S. Department of Commerce suggest that, in order for a store to qualify as a superette, it must do a minimum of $75,000 in annual sales. If annual sales exceed $1 million, the store is classified as a supermarket.
