Definition of Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS)

society dedicated to the advancement of professional standards of risk management. Its membership is composed of risk and insurance managers of business organizations, public organizations, and service organizations. Both profit and nonprofit organizations are represented. The goal of RIMS is to upgrade the management of risk and employee benefit plans in order to preserve the assets of the organization in question. Included in the activities of RIMS are research, conferences and seminars, and sponsorship of the Insurance Institute of America (IIA) Associate in Risk Management (ARM) program.
