Definition of registration

1. act or fact of making an entry of any class of transactions or statements for the purpose of documentation for future reference. Such documentation may be in the form of financial information noted in registers, such as a cash register.process set up by the Securities Exchange Acts of 1933 and 1934 that requires publicly issued securities to be reviewed by the SEC.
2. recording of stocks or bonds in the owner's name as opposed to bearer's name.

In general: enrollment process; for example, selecting classes in a college.

1. the act of informing the manufacturer of a product that you have purchased and installed it. Registering software is a good idea because it makes you eligible for customer support and upgrades from the manufacturer.
2. the alignment of color plates in a multi-color printing job on a printing press. If the colors are not perfectly aligned, there may be moirés, or there may be unintentional gaps between colors. See trapping.
3. the recording of information in the Windows Registry or similar configuration files. See Registry.
