Dictionary of Marketing Terms: push software
push software
computer application that allows the user to send data without the data's being requested. E-mail functions with this technology because the user will receive mail whether or not it is asked for. Essentially the sender pushes the message to the receiver. This technology is also useful for delivering information that must be updated on a minute-by-minute basis, such as stock market quotations or news bulletins.
In computer programming, push software enables the programmer to remove items from a stack in the reverse order from that in which they were added.
