postmark
imprint stamped on mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service showing when (A.M. or P.M. and the date) the mail was received by the USPS and the name of the receiving post office or sectional center facility. By monitoring the postmarks on incoming mail, direct mail marketers can identify service delays. Postmarks sometimes incorporate small advertising messages.
