Dictionary of Accounting Terms: noninterest-bearing note
noninterest-bearing note
note receivable or note payable that does not provide for interest. In this unrealistic case, imputed intereston the note is required. Until tax reform, such notes were commonly used in transactions between parents and children (e.g., crown loans) and are still permitted under limited circumstances. The term interest-bearingis also used in contradistinction to discountor zero-coupon instruments.
