Exchange membership consists of registered broker-dealers. NSX created the National Securities Trading System, NSTS, which automatically performs all functions of an auction market. NSTS, an electronic securities communication and execution facility, consolidates bids and offers of competing dealers, as well as public orders, for review and execution by users. NSTS contains features envisioned for a national exchange market system. Founded in Cincinnati and formerly called The Cincinnati Stock Exchange, the Exchange moved to Chicago in 1995 and changed its name to National Stock Exchange in 2003.
