mag track
magnetic track; magnetic tape with sprocket holes that appears as a strip on a reel of film. Film with a mag track is sound film and must be used in conjunction with a sound camera in filming and a sound projector in playback. A sound camera features a small audio head that records the sound as the action is being filmed; a sound projector contains a small playback head for the projection of the sound when showing a film.
