List servers enable marketers to send promotional messages at virtually no cost to an unlimited number of consumers who have opted to be included on an e-mail mailing list. List servers must be designed to handle the volume of addresses the marketer anticipates needing. They should also allow for removal of consumers who opt out. A list server may automatically remove addresses that return the messages unread. Some can also send messages at a future date or time. The most commony used list servers are LISTSERV, from L-Soft International, and Majordomo, a freeware product.
