Dictionary of Marketing Terms: lettershop
lettershop
clerical operation or service organization that prepares large-volume mailings; also called mailing line. Some lettershops offer creative services such as copywriting (see copywriter, graphic design), list compilation (see compiled list), and list maintenance. However, their traditional functions are retrieving stock from a warehouse and collating mailing package components, addressing; bursting (see burst), trimming (see trim), and folding components as needed; using a mechanical inserter to insert them into the outer envelope; sealing the envelope; preparing mail according to U.S. Postal Service regulations for entry to the mail system; and packaging and shipping merchandise.
