Dictionary of Marketing Terms: key-to-disk
key-to-disk
type of key entry that stores data on a computer disk storage device. Unlike key-to-tape entry, key-to-disk entry permits fast access to the data on a random basis without taking time to load a magnetic tape or waiting for the availability of a tape drive. Key-to disk entry is preferable when the mainframe is in a remote location, because disk-stored data can be easily transmitted to the mainframe via satellite or communications cable.
