Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
main standards organization for the Internet. The IETF is composed of an international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet and its smooth operation. It is the principal body engaged in the development of new Internet standard specifications, but it is not a traditional standards organization in that it is made up of volunteers who meet three times a year. There is no membership; anyone may register for and attend any meeting.
