Dictionary of Marketing Terms: geo code
geo code
- code assigned by a file owner to file records according to the owner's own coding system that identifies the geographic location of each individual's residence or business in terms of region, state county, city, or other subdivision larger than a ZIP code area. The assumption is that people who live in the same geographic area as good customers will also be good customers because they share similar demographic characteristics and interests.
- generic term for the various postal codes used throughout the world, such as the ZIP code or the Canadian Postal Code.
