Dictionary of Marketing Terms: flop
flop
In general: (informal) effort that has failed, such as an unsuccessful advertising campaign or a show that has disappointed its audience.
Copy reproduction: develop a film negative on the reverse side of the original so that the finished product will be the opposite of the original. Sometimes, after the rough layout has been prepared, it can be seen that the copy will read or fit better if the elements face from right to left rather than the reverse. When this is true, the printer or photoengraver will be instructed to flop the negative made from the original photograph and then to make the reproduction from the flopped negative.
