Dictionary of Marketing Terms: film library
film library
- collection of films. Often, a film studio's film library is a valuable asset to the studio because the films in the collection can be marketed individually or in packages to television stations or networks for a considerable profit.
- place where a collection of films is housed. These films are used for viewing (and sometimes production, as in stock footage-see stock shot), but they are not for sale. Film libraries are generally maintained by production companies, film studios, film owners, advertising agencies, or private citizens.
