Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms: export
export
to save a file in a format other than the application program's native format. Many word processing and graphics programs have the ability to export to several different formats. Look under the "Save As..." dialog box for the available file formats.
Because the export process is a type of file conversion (instead of a simple copy operation) there is the possibility of a loss of image quality or text formatting.
